Nat Talk: Bringing Nature Back into Cities
What wildlife would you bring back into your city? Do native insects actually prefer native plants in urban environments? How can we demonstrate the benefits of entwining nature with our cities? Urban ecology explores these questions and more.
To help answer these and other related issues, Dr. Luis Mata of the School of Ecosystem and Forest Sciences at the University of Melbourne will introduce some key concepts and ideas behind urban ecology. He'll also share the latest findings from a series of urban ecology research projects conducted with his colleagues. In one example, you'll be introduced to his favorite Australian insect—the blue-banded bee—and learn how this group of researchers has been working closely with local governments and community groups to bring back the charismatic bee into Melbourne greenspaces.
Note: you do not need to purchase tickets and do not need a Zoom account to attend the talk. Please consider supporting The Nat by selecting the $12 suggested ticket price at checkout.
