Conservation and Environmental Stewardship Apprenticeship
Born from Cabrillo National Monument's free STEM summer camp for underserved girls, the Conservation and Environmental Stewardship Apprenticeship Program (CESAP) provides girls the opportunity to do real science, communicate that science through innovative methods such as using art, and learn from diverse women in STEAM mentors in San Diego's only national park. CESAP apprentices have:
- Participated in bird and tidepool surveys and taken data that will inform stewardship decisions
- Created a scientific comic that informs about native species and habitat destruction
- Designed and led a "Birding 101" walk for the public
- Created nature poetry and led public poetry events for "Write Out' in partnership with the National Writing Project
- Educated families and youth at the EcoLogik partner-booth during the IF/THEN STEAM Fair at the Comic-Con Museum
- ... and so much more!
Applications for spring/summer and fall/winter 2024 close April 15th!
Apprenticeships will last 4 months (with the option to extend) and requires meeting at least once a week (with the option for special events). The spring-summer apprenticeship runs May - August, and the fall-winter apprenticeship runs September - December.
