Global Cardboard Challenge

Looking for a positive way to connect and create? Now through April 15, you're invited to create an arcade game out of cardboard, scissors, and tape for the online Global Cardboard Challenge! Digitally share your progress and connect with other families all over the world through Flipgrid. In partnership with Makerpedia on the Island of Aruba, University of San Diego is hosting a global cardboard challenge ONLINE since we cannot host the event in person. Families will be able to share their progress and their final game.

The Global Cardboard Challenge is inspired by a cardboard arcade created by then 9-year-old Caine Monroy out of boxes and everyday objects. The boy ran his arcade from his father's auto parts store in East Los Angeles during mid-2011 (cainesarcade.com).

The Global Cardboard Challenge aims to foster creativity and collaboration with others. Read more and sign up your family at: https://www.makerpedia.info/events.

You may want to start collecting (these are some suggestions, but feel free to use any materials you already have--reuse and recycle as much as possible): Boxes of all sizes, empty containers of strawberries and other fruits/vegetables, empty bottles, bottle caps, egg cartons, milk cartons, paper towel and toilet paper tubes, old fabric cut into strips, old stuffed animals and toys, bouncy balls and other balls, figurines, clear packing tape, scissors, markers, pencils, paint brushes, hooks, yarn, box cutters (for older people), stapler, brown paper bags, glue, glue sticks, prizes.
