The Ionis NEXT Employee Resource Group is a new Ionis initiative focused on increasing awareness and interest in life science careers with the goal of improving diversity and providing opportunities for future leaders who belong to traditionally underrepresented groups such as women and minorities. Ionis NEXT volunteers have shared their career paths with elementary, middle, and high school students and have served as visiting scientists for the Salk Virtual Mobile Science Lab. In the future, the Ionis NEXT group plans to host onsite science demonstrations, offer manufacturing lab tours, serve as mentors, and offer internships to students in San Diego County. The Ionis NEXT group seeks to be highly integrated with the San Diego STEM outreach community.
